Canadians Celebrate Obama Victory by Changing National Anthem to ‘O Bama’

November 4, 2008 by Matthew Mcgarnickle

To celebrate Barack Obama’s historic Presidential win, the Government of Canada has decided to change their national anthem from ‘O Canada’ to ‘O Bama’. The new anthem will celebrate Obama as the President while also bidding farewell to the current President, George W. Bush.

To debut the new anthem, the Government of Canada prepared a music video that highlights the lyrics with images.  Skippy McGee, a 7-year old schoolboy from Vancouver, won a national contest to provide his angelic voice for ‘O Bama.’

The new anthem and video was scheduled to be released next week, but The Daily Seagull gained exclusive access and is proud to show it to you for the first time. Please click play on the video screen below.

Reactions so far to the new anthem have been overwhelmingly positive. “It’s like we’re a whole new country,” said a smiling Fredrick Cross, from Halifax, Nova Scotia. “I think I’m going to need a towel, because my heart just melted.”

The new anthem’s lyrics will be distributed nation-wide in the next few days. It is expected that it will be sung at the Toronto Maple Leafs game this weekend.
