Canucks Reveal 82nd Jersey

November 14, 2008 by Matthew Mcgarnickle

The Vancouver Canucks revealed their 82nd jersey yesterday at a press conference at GM Place. The announcement confirms recent rumors that the Canucks will wear 82 different jerseys next season.  In other words, they will wear a different jersey for every single game.

The colors and logos of the new jerseys will only be slightly modified.  It was also confirmed that previous rumors were correct in saying that creativity was not used in the jersey design process.

The 82 different jerseys will be sold at registered NHL vendors early next month. While the price was not confirmed, it is expected that the jerseys will cost approximately $150 each.

The Daily Seagull contacted Mike Gillis, GM of the Canucks to explain the rational behind the decision.

“We originally wanted to just have a third jersey, but since the Canucks have such a rich history of jerseys it was very difficult choosing one style,” said Gillis.  “So our indecision inspired the decision to create 82 different jerseys.”

Fans’ reaction to the news was very positive.  “This is fantastic,” said Jay Beeker, long-time season ticket holder to the Canucks.  “I’m going to get one of each so when I go to the games I match the players.  It’s definitely worth $12,000 to have all of them.”

There’s one person who wasn’t happy to hear the news though.  Henry Henderson, the Canuck long-time laundry boy, will be out of a job next year because the jerseys will be disposed of after each game, so they don’t need to be cleaned.

“I’m extremely sad,” said 53-year-old Henderson, as a single tear rolled down his cheek. “I guess I’ll have to go back to high school now to get my diploma.”

The jerseys should be available online and at a store near you in the next few weeks.

Now what would happen if the Canucks make the playoffs and go all the way? Would they merely rotate and start back from jersey #1, and since its the playoffs, wouldn’t the other jersey’s get jealous that they weren’t picked twice in the year. I mean I have my chairs ready for a parade down Robson already and I heard the city is hanging the 82 jersey’s as street banners downtown. That was Gregor’s number one priority.
