Kyle Wellwood Promoted by Vancouver Canucks

Canucks forward Kyle Wellwood has been handed a nice promotion as a reward for his hard work and determination. As of today, Wellwood is now going to play on the top line of Canucks AHL affiliate the Manitoba Moose. Canucks general manager Mike Gillis made the decision on Friday, October 17th to reward Wellwood for his strong play and agressive forechecking skills. “Kyle has been an inspirational player for our organization,” Gillis remarked on the move, “it’s not every day you see an out of shape player on the ice with a group of elite athletes. I think he’s really going to flourish on the top line of the Manitoba Moose.”
Wellwood’s ability to be on the ice for opposing goals and great vision that allows him to avoid all phsyical contact on the ice surely fuelled his new promotion. “I’ve never seen a player go in for a hit only to dodge at the last minute to avoid any physical contact whatsoever,” Canucks coach Alain Vigneault had to say about the move. “I hope they enjoy him in Winnipeg as much as we enjoyed having him here in Vancouver.”
Teammate and Canucks captain Roberto Luongo thinks he move is a great opportunity for the paunchy forward. “He has all the tools required to flourish in Winnipeg for sure. He can skate and he knows how to hold a hockey stick. He also has an extra layer of blubber to keep his body warm during those long cold winter months that Winnipeg is famous for. Good for him.”
In one game with the Vancouver Canucks this season Wellwood has 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 shots on net and 0 hits. However, he does sport an impressive -3 rating, a feat difficult to accomplish in only one game.
When asked who will replace the talented forward in the Canucks lineup Vigeault was unsure. “I’ve had my eye on this sack of used jocks in the dressing room. Maybe they’ll be up for a game.”
