Name the Janitor Contest at Capilano Suspension Bridge

September 29, 2008 by Matthew Mcgarnickle

The Vancouver Aquarium isn’t the only Vancouver tourist attraction that’s having a name contest this Fall. The Capilano Suspension Bridge has just announced that they will hold a contest to name their long time janitor.

The janitor has been working at the Capilano Suspension Bridge for 27 years and has always gone by the name of “buddy” or “hey you.”  Heidi Goule, Manager of the popular tourist attraction, felt it was time for “old dude” to get his own name.  “Sweeping guy has been a big part of our organization for several years, and now it’s time to reward him with a real name, and involving the public with this process is an extra bonus.”

The janitor himself was so excited about the contest he was speechless.  When asked what he thought about the contest he said, “What are you talking about?  My name is Steve.” He obviously has a good sense of humor.

Submissions for the name will be accepted up to midnight on October 31st.  The grand prize winner will receive a “one of a kind” encounter with the janitor by spending the entire day with him.  The winner will get to up close and personal with the janitor’s day-to-day interactions which include sweeping the floor and cleaning the washrooms.

If you’re looking for inspiration in the contest, drop by the washroom at the Capilano Suspension Bridge.
