Polls: People Prefer Palin’s Panache

September 19, 2008 by admin

It appears that this year’s Presidential Election isn’t just a race to the White House, but also a race to the Funny Farm. Leading that race is Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who has had a recent increase in approval ratings, particularly amongst the 18 to 25 year old demographics.

Leading political analysts point to Tina Fey’s recent impersonation of Palin on Saturday Night Live as a reason for Palin’s popularity gain in this demographic. “It is very important for young people to have a President or Vice President that is very easy to make fun of,” said John Vanderbook, a political science professor at the University of Vancouver. “Why do you think George Bush was in office for two terms? It’s not because he’s a good leader, it’s because it’s hilarious when people make fun of him.”

When these poll findings were revealed to some University of Seattle students, they shared similar sentiments. “I’m not surprised Sarah Palin is doing so well,” said Jimmy Jenkins, a 4th year student majoring in basket weaving. “It’s so funny when people make fun of her; I hope she is elected so the jokes keep coming for at least 4 more years. The guy impersonating Obama isn’t nearly as funny.”

The Democratic Party was also not surprised by the recent jump in the polls. “Tina Fey did a great impersonation of Palin,” said Travis Lee, campaign manager for the Democratic Party. “If she gets elected the American public can rest assured that they will be laughing for at least 4 more years.”

Lee also alluded to the Democratic Party’s plans to make their own candidates seem funnier. “We’ve already contacted Chris Rock and Will Ferrell about their interest in playing Obama and Biden in a proposed comedy film called ‘That’s Not a Man, That’s My Wife.’” Voters can expect to see the film’s release in late October, just in time for the election.
