The Janitor’s Name is… BASU!
October 26, 2008 by Matthew Mcgarnickle
Staff and volunteers at the Capilano Suspension Bridge are excited to share the news of the winning choice in an international contest to name the long-serving janitor. Basu, pronounced BAZ-OOO, is the winning name. It received the most votes from a panel of experienced international name judges. There were over 12 entries for the competition. The contest was inspired by the Vancouver Aquarium’s contest to name the new beluga whale.
The name Basu was submitted by the Clarky family who live in North Surrey. Intended as an acronym, Basu stands for:
“B” is for Broom (The janitors number one most used cleaning tool)
“A” is for Air Sanitizer (For the bathroom, especially after the restaurant’s Burrito Tuesdays)
“S” is for Sawdust (For cleaning up when visitors get motion sickness on the bridge)
“U” is for Urinal Blocks (Keeping the urinals in the bathroom smelling fresh and clean)
The Daily Seagull talked to Basu to get his reaction about his new name. “What the hell are you talking about?” said Basu. “My name is Steve.”
Oh Basu, always the entertainer.

OMG LOL!!!!! what’s the deal with North Surrey? What did the Clarky family receive as a prize? Gift certificate from the CSB restaurant…good only on Tuesdays?
